Heat pump payback calculator

Every field is yours to fill. The tool does not invent quotes, tariffs or rebates: it only does the arithmetic on numbers you enter, and it will only pull an incentive from our verified dataset.

—Enter a quote and a current fuel bill to see net cost, annual saving and simple payback.

Simple payback only. It excludes financing, inflation, tariff changes, equipment replacement before the payback point, and any backup-heating runtime in cold climates. Use it to compare options, not to guarantee a return.

How to read the result

Under about 8 years, a heat pump usually clears the hurdle even if incentives move. Between 8 and 15 years, the decision depends on what you would otherwise spend replacing your current system. Over 15 years, look hard at insulation and air sealing first — those are usually cheaper per unit of energy saved.

The payback bands above are an editorial rule of thumb, not a market price. Replace them with your own sourced figures before you point readers at any state or province page.
